PARISH SPORTS MINSITRY

Parish Sports Ministry is an engaging initiative designed to connect young people through sports and recreational activity while fostering spiritual growth and community. It offers a range of sports activities and events tailored for youth, providing a safe and supportive environment where they can develop their physical skills, build friendships, and experience the values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.

Vision – Healthy and Holy young disciples

Mission – Evangelizing and building community through sport and recreation with and for our youth

Two important pivots have been made.

1. Evangelization – participants in parish/group-based sports ministry must be exposed to experiences of prayer and learning to share of the Word of God. Sports become the basis through which values of respect, dignity of the human body, humility, love, patience, peacemaking, honesty, Justice, forgiveness, initiative, and cooperation are taught.

2. Community building – parishes participating in the programme are called to demonstrate their care for their youth (beyond the fence line of the parish church) in tangible and intangible ways, by supporting their participation in activities that are not explicitly faith formation.
